I believe in giving students homework only for the purpose of furthering their skills. At the Grade 1/2 level I will be asking students to read 15 minutes a day in French.
Students will go home every day with:
When the student reads:
This homework will have them practicing their reading and writing. It also encourages students to take some quiet time and to be responsible for their own learning.
If you need to leave me a message you can write it in the same box where the parent/guardian signature goes as I will be checking their reading log every day.
*If a student is struggling and I will talk with their parent/guardian before sending extra ressources/practice home.
**I do not intend for this "homework" to cause students stress. If this is not possible every day please do not worry. This is strictly intended to integrate French into their home life and give them a chance to practice outside the classroom.
Students will go home every day with:
- An individual zippered pouch (we will be calling this a "pochette") with a reasonable amount of books at their reading level
- A reading duotang (called "Mon carnet de lecture") with calendar pages inside them
When the student reads:
- They will write the date in French
- They will write down the title of the book on the day they read
- They will write the amount of time they read
- They will ask a parent/guardian to sign off that they have done the reading
This homework will have them practicing their reading and writing. It also encourages students to take some quiet time and to be responsible for their own learning.

Homework tips
Tip #1 - Designate a spot for your child
The kitchen or dinning room table can be a great spot for young children who may need support or help staying on track.
Tip #2 - Make a standing appointment with homework
Having a fixed time for homework to establish a routine. It does not have to be at the same time every day, but it may be before or after a certain activity.
Tip #3 - No electronics
The sound or sight of electronics can be very distracting for children. Having time away from screens helps children to focus and relax.
Tip #4 - Create a homework caddy
Students will be familiar with a table caddy, having one at home may do the trick to minimize distractions and time looking for supplies!
Tip #5 - A full tummy thinks better than an empty one
Making time for a snack before homework will boost concentration.
Tip #6 - Fresh air does a brain good
Play and unwinding after school is an important part of the day. Work in time to go for a walk or play outside before beginning homework.
Tip #7 - Ask Mme Chabot for help
I am here to help, please don't hesitate to let me know how I can do that.
